Peat pellets are compressed peat, a coarse wafer of crushed peat moss with nutrients added. Peat pallet is a plant starter which makes it easy to start seeds indoors. Some types of peat pellets are enclosed in a mesh that eventually disintegrates. When water is added, the peat pellets swell into small cylinders of peat about 2 inches across and seven times the original height.
Peat pellets, like peat and newspaper pots, can be planted directly into the garden once seedlings are strong enough. Here is the way the peat pallets are applied.
Soak the peat pellets in a shallow bowl or pan of water for about 15 minutes, or until they expand completely. Many peat pellets come with a ready-made planting hole. If yours doesn't, poke a small hole, 1/4" to 1/2" deep, in the pellet and sow one or two seeds. Push a bit of the moistened peat from the top of the pellet to cover the seeds. Place in a covered flat, tray, or shallow bowl.
The peat pellets are supposed to contain sterile peat growing medium, encouraging plant growth with great aeration and water retaining capacity. Because of its excellent agro-chemical characteristics peat extracted by the "Record" Ltd. from the deposit of Morochno in Dubrovitsky region, Ukraine, can be considered as one of the best materials for preparation of peat containers such as peat pallets, peat pots and the like.
