Peat and fertilizers can be used both in horticulture. Peat is more appropriate as a growing medium when fertilizers - as a soil improver. Traditional methods, many relying on waste organic matter, together with the peat alternatives can give equally good results.

Peat has long been used as a soil amendment, a soil acidifier, a component in potting mix and even as mulch. Harvested from centuries-old wetlands or bogs, peat is formed by the partial decomposition of plants, especially sphagnum moss. Various forms are available, from long fibers of sphagnum peat moss to finely-milled or shredded varieties.

Different fertilizers are used to alter the soil structure, water-holding capacity, nutrient content, acidity or conditions for other organisms (such as earthworms). Any bulky organic material can be used to improve the organic content of soil. Garden compost and leafmould are among the best materials for enriching soil, but bark products, manure and other organic fertilizers can also be used.

The peat extracted from the deposit of Morochno in Dubrovitsky region, Ukraine, has been applied by the customers of “Record” Ltd. for quite a log time and has always been reputed as one of the best growing medium in agriculture and farming for preparation of peat composts and peat mixtures. The peat from Morochno is widely used for enrichment of soil, in greenhouse facilities, for growing of champignons, sprouts, ornamental plants and for other purposes in horticulture.
